Transmission System Operator (TSO)
Market player responsible under French law for the operation, maintenance and development of the system, interconnections with other countries, managing power flows, ensuring system security and efficiency, drawing up investment programmes and calling for tenders from the generation sites. In France, this is done by a single player, RTE. In other European countries, several TSOs can co-exist. Their main tasks are essentially equivalent to those of the French TSO, despite significant differences in their by-laws and the scope covered.
