The now fully excavated tunnel runs for 8.5 kilometres alongside the high-speed rail tunnel, between the villages of La Junquera in Spain and Montesquieu-des-Albères in France. It will act as the conduit for a 320,000 volt line, linking the French and Spanish power grids with minimal environmental impact.Transparency in the French electricity market: RTE and UFE announce more frequent updates of generation fleet availability2013-03-05As part of their continuous efforts to promote greater transparency in the French electricity market, RTE and UFE have introduced a major improvement to the publication of French power generation data on the RTE customer website. Information on the forecast availability of the generating fleet will now be published more frequently.TWENTIES project: Alstom, in collaboration with RTE, takes world leadership in a key technology
for the energy turnaround and the future of very high voltage direct current grids2013-02-25A major breakthrough to integrate renewable energy sources into the European electricity system,
in collaboration with RTE and as part of the TWENTIES projectRTE financial results for 2012: Good results, allowing RTE to continue its investments and maintain stable financing indicators2013-02-19In 2012, RTE continued to invest (€1,357m, +17%) in the transmission network and support the development of the electricity sector, while maintaining balanced finances and adopting a dynamic approach to the management of its funding sources. Sales increased (€4,529m, +7%), largely due to the rise in French national electricity demand in 2012, which saw cooler temperatures than 2011. The rise in sales and the performance of the company led to higher net income (+€407m, +50%).
These positive results serve to confirm the robustness of the economic model for electricity transmission in France, and in the current crisis, offer RTE and other market operators stability and visibility going forward.RTE publishes the 2012 French Electricity Report2013-01-22French national electricity demand in 2012 was 2.1% higher than in 2011, due to the colder temperatures observed during the year. The increase in demand was driven by the residential and professional sectors (+2.4%), whilst electricity consumption by the industrial sector (-4.0% for heavy industry) and small/medium businesses (-1.0%) declined under the influence of the economic crisis. French electricity generation was down slightly in 2012 (-0.3%), with significant drops in generation by nuclear plants (-3.8%) and thermal facilities (-7.0%), and a rise in output from renewable energy sources (+23.4% excl. hydro). France continues to be a net exporter of electricity to neighbouring countries, and remained the biggest energy exporter in western Europe in 2012, despite a reduction in net export volumes.A new common regional transparency platform go live2012-12-13Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), Red Eléctrica de España (REE), Rede Eléctrica Nacional (REN) and Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable (ONEE), the French, Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan transmission system operators (TSOs), make a decisive step in favor of the transparency of the electricity markets. The four TSOs launch today a new internet platform, dedicated to the publication of interconnections electrical data.
