Regional data

RTE provides a set of indicators for each administrative region, showing electricity consumption in megawatts, electricity generation by source, and the balance of flows between regions.

The live data on display is compiled in part from measurements taken in the electricity systems, and in part from estimates based on models developed by RTE.

The real-time values of the indicator are updated twice after initial publication:

  • Over the following months, the indicator is consolidated using available metering data (‘consolidated data’ in the calendar).
  • In the course of the following year, the indicator is finalised based on all the metering data (‘final data’ in the calendar).

Basis for estimation of regional energy consumption and generation

Regional energy consumption is calculated on the same basis as national consumption. It is drawn up using information on the electricity output of each region and inter-regional flows.

The energy generation data is taken from the same sources as for the nationwide figures, while the balance of inflows/outflows in each region is calculated using data on the energy flows in national electricity transmission system lines.

Basis for estimation of regional energy consumption and generation forecasts

Regional consumption forecasts are drawn up using the production schedules of dispatchable electricity generators, adjusted for estimated exchanges.
